There's no shortage of things to do in Chico, whether you want to take a hike in Upper Bidwell Park or go window shopping downtown. Yet, like most people, when we have a long list of things we can do with our friends and loved ones we tend to forget about the simplistic activities that also bring us a sense of happiness.
On the off chance you're one of those people looking for some simple ideas for your next date night, an activity that will get you out of the house, or something to do with a friend, we’ve got you covered. Read below to see where to go if you want to watch a show, visit a museum, or want something more spur of the moment.
Watch a Show
Everyone enjoys going to Cinemark to watch the latest action movie or romantic comedy, but what if you want something more? Getting dressed nicely and going to see a local theater production can be just what you need to spice up the old dinner and a movie classic!
On Chico State’s campus you’ll find Chico Performances which feature an arrange of plays, ballets, concerts, and more.
The California Regional Theatre has their show at the Center for the Arts theater located on Pleasant Valley High School’s campus. They have new shows, on average, every three months. Their website will have the newest show available for ticket purchasing while also showing you what will be coming up.
The Blue Room Theatre is another great place to check out the local theater scene. Located right at the start of downtown it gives you the fantastic opportunity to take the classic dinner and movie date to something a bit classier. Pick one of the amazing restaurants located in the heart of downtown then you can just walk right over and see your show. No re-parking of the car needed!
The Chico Theater Company is the place to go if you're looking for a theater production showing sooner rather than later. They tend to have a show going on almost every month out of the year, that way you have more options and opportunities to help support local theater and enjoy an evening out. Chico Theater Company even has a snack bar where you can purchase drinks, snacks, and yummy homemade treats during their intermissions.
Looking to something on the big screen that isn’t the newest action flick or horror movie? Check out the Pageant Theatre to see if any of the shows currently playing are of interest to you.
Visit a Museum
Maybe you want to go see some beautiful paintings or learn more about a certain piece of history. If that’s the case than you can totally make an early or late afternoon visit to the Museum of Northern California Art (monca). On occasion they also have live concerts happening, see their events page for more information on the happenings of monca!
Learn more about the rich history of John and Annie Bidwell, two of Northern California’s most significant historical figures, by taking a tour of their home known as the Bidwell Mansion. The home has been restored to its historic period of 1868-1900.
Ever wondered about our community’s agricultural heritage? Look no further and make a visit to the Patrick Ranch Museum where you can visit the 1877 Glenwood Farmhouse along with priceless artifacts, multiple barns, and more.
There's always something cool to learn when it comes to science. Take a trip over to the Gateway Science Museum (which is next door to the Bidwell Mansion) and see what exhibits they currently have that will leave you feeling smarter than when you entered!
