Now that all of your boxes are in your new apartments in Chico California, it is time for the most fun part, unpacking. Oh joy! The key to any unpacking endeavor is to get started and get it over with. You don’t have to be an organizing guru to make unpacking a seamless process. Follow these steps and you will be done in no time!

Start with the necessities

Always unpack your toilet paper, hand soap, dish soap and towels for both the bathroom and the kitchen first. You need to be able to wash any dirty dishes as you are unpacking and of course take care of business when nature calls.

Move boxes and bags to the rooms where they belong

Put kitchen boxes in the kitchen, bathroom boxes in the bathroom…you get the drift. You will save more time by moving all of the boxes in their respective places while you are in a groove. This can also help keep your sanity and help give the illusion of order.

Next unpack one room at a time

Choose which room is the most important to you to get done first. If it is near the end of the night, your priority might be your bedroom and bathroom. Nobody wants to worry about making the bed at the end of the night after you have worked your tail off unpacking all day. But, if you have the majority of the day then you might want to work on the kitchen to have access to glasses, plates and most importantly food!

Organize and purge while you are unpacking your apartment in Chico

Create systems to get yourself in a clean and organized state of mind right when you get into the apartment. If you realized that you have 25 glasses and you live by yourself and don’t have that many people over all the time, it might be time to get rid of a few. It is always good to have extra cabinet or closet space when you move into your new apartment because you will inevitably get house warming gifts or splurge a little on clothes when the new season hits.

Make a list of things that you need to buy

Whether it be a shelf for the bathroom or a plant for the living room, put all of the things that you need and want on a list. Don’t buy these things until you are almost completely packed and the rest is waiting on those purchases. It will help you figure out what you really need without adding extra boxes that will get in your way.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

If you sister is an organizing wiz or your significant other is a tech guru, ask for some unpacking assistance. There will always be a printer, cable, computer and more electronics that others can help you with while you unpack your boxes Or what about your desk drawers that need organizing? Just give some direction and let your friends and family help you. Post-it® notes are great to use to identify where things need to go without you having to be there assisting everybody all the time. Put sticky notes in the cabinets to show people where you want the glasses or on the walls to show where you want the TV.

Doing these steps will help make the unpacking process in your beautiful new apartments in Chico California a wonderful one. Just be patient, think ahead and don’t be afraid to turn on some music and turn it into an unpacking party!
